Hey Friends! I am back with some more Human Design talk. Previously I provided an introduction to the system, you can find that here.

Today on our journey with Human Design I will be conducting a tour of the Human Design Bodygraph Chart. Here, I will name the areas of the chart and give some information about it.

As we go further into this journey, I intend to publish articles that discuss these areas in depth and provide examples.

Now that you’ve generated your Human Design Chart, let’s discuss what you’re looking at.

(Aura/Energy) TYPE: Your Type provides information on how your energy works. This is the overall operating system of a being. Your Type reveals how you give and exchange energy with others, your environment, and the world. Each type has a different way of bringing opportunities and flows to their life.

Your energy Type speaks to your aura, the energy field that surrounds your body. Part of your aura is the essence that your soul exudes (it’s not about who you are as a conscious human being.

For example: Generators have an open and enveloping aura. This Aura Type draws in opportunities to respond to and is empowered by the energy of the Sacral Center.

Each Type has a Strategy. Our Strategy helps us to efficiently and successfully interact through our aura with the other Types. Strategy provides you with information about how to make the right choices.

STRATEGY: Your plan for how to make things happen with the least resistance. This strategy is not something that must be followed, it is something that occurs naturally and reliably for each Type. It is like an action plan that you can use to determine your response to certain situations. It is a behavior and a technique of how you live in a relationship with others.

For example: The Generator’s strategy is to respond.

By following your Strategy you can make things happen with the least resistance. Strategy is a method that you will use to align with your Authority.

AUTHORITY Speaks to how you can effortlessly make aligned life decisions.Your Authority is the decision-making process that is the most natural and accurate way you connect to correct answers, clarity, or inner truth within yourself. Authority provides a framework to help you follow your true path by helping you tune into your inner compass, what some may consider intuition or gut instinct. FYI, not all authorities are “inner,” more about that later.

If you live by your personal Strategy and Authority there is nothing to do- the doing happens and ‘you’ are not interfering.

Once you begin living aligned with your Type, Strategy, and Authority you will experience “awards” or signposts as your Type’s signature.

When you are operating in alignment with your truth, you’ll experience an energetic sensation that is described as your Signature.

SIGNATURE: This is an energetic way of knowing you’re on the correct path. Signature is an energetic theme and is determined by our Type. Each Type has its own signature and not-self theme that will guide them towards their highest potential.

Your signature is the signal that you are in alignment. It’s the universe’s way of nudging you and saying ‘Yes, this is for you…more of this.’

The opposite of our Signature is our Not-Self theme.

The Not-Self theme is a bodily feeling that something is misaligned or our energy is leaking.

NOT SELF THEME: This is a feeling you experience when you do things that are not aligned with the true you. It can be seen as an indicator that you veered off course, or maybe you’re saying ‘yes’ to things that may be a ‘no’.

Each Type has its very own emotional response that lets them know when something is not correct.

For example: Generator’s Signature is the feeling of ’Satisfaction,’ and their Not-Self theme is Frustration.

*I want to highlight something here. Strategy, Signature, and Not-Self themes are each dependent on Type. And your Type influences you being in your purpose. This will be a theme of sorts (Importance of Type).

You know a bit about your energy field and how it works, but what is it communicating?

The Profile is our personality archetype within Human Design. It is the costume we wear in life.

PROFILE: How you are destined to live out your role in life.

When I think of the Profiles, I see them as the roles we are here to play as we travel our life paths.

Your profile can help you understand your learning style, what you need to feel secure in your decision-making, how you relate to yourself and others, and how you share your gifts with the world. It illuminates how you will travel on your life path.

You’ll always see two numbers as your Profile — and both make up your Profile.

FIRST NUMBER in your Profile is found in your Conscious Personality Sun (black/right side of your Chart). This placement would indicate that you have a mental awareness of this Line’s energy and how it presents itself in your life. You’ll likely find deep resonance with this Line.

THE SECOND NUMBER in your Profile is your Unconscious Design Sun (red/left side of your Chart). This may be something that takes a little time to connect with, meaning you may not see how it is expressed right away. Or it may surprise you. It is an energy that you’re not quite consciously aware of but when you consider it, you can see how it has been running in the background. It’s the quality of your body and what your body needs.

Each number represents specific archetypal themes that influence your experience of the world. The numbers inform you about what’s necessary to feel confident and strong in making decisions and creating a life you love.

The first number represents how you share your gift with the world, The second number represents what you need to feel secure and grounded before you can share your gifts.

The conscious and unconscious parts of our profile work together to create a unique combination of energies that dictate how we’ll approach our life journey. The needs of both these archetype themes within the profile must be met for you to feel at peace with your life and your choices.

The way these energies work together tells the story of how you see the world but most of all how you’re here to unearth your Purpose/Divine Destiny (this is speaking to the Incarnation Cross).

NOTE: Many of the archetype themes within the two lines of Profiles may appear to be at odds with each other. However, Human Design shows us that growth often involves mastering challenges and finding ways to harmonize between different aspects of ourselves. Therefore, finding ways to work with both of these themes in your life will help you to deepen your self-mastery, resilience, and self-acceptance.

As I mentioned above, the Profile tells us how we’re here to unearth and live in our purpose. When we talk about purpose in Human Design, oftentimes we’ll look to the Incarnation Cross.

INCARNATION CROSS: What I am here to accomplish in this life. The reason I came to earth and the gifts I am here to share with the collective.

The Incarnation Cross is known as the information where our life purpose is revealed. Your cross is the path you have chosen to expand into during this lifetime.

Your Incarnation Cross is derived from your charts Conscious and Unconscious Sun and Earth gates. If you want to illuminate your life’s path, get acquainted with the gates that your Incarnation comes from.

The Incarnation Cross only emerges as a byproduct of Type and living in alignment. Therefore to activate it, you must first live in alignment with your Design; Human Design Type, and Strategy.

The idea is– That living in alignment with your Design would naturally have you living your purpose.

To be in alignment and unleash the energy of your Cross follow your Strategy and Authority specific to your Type.

Let me be clear here… whether you get to your purpose with the guidance of Human Design or not, the opportunity is still there. What Human Design makes clear is that this process is happening whether we are aware of it or not. Human Design supports us in journeying consciously as opposed to stumbling in the dark. The goal here is to honor your authenticity and you will be in your purpose, so however you go about that… is up to you. My belief is… we’re all heading to the same place, just taking different paths.

Type and Strategy are important guides for us moving toward the actual circumstances where the Cross can Blossom. By aligning with their guidance, this will likely lead you to a state of contentment that’s probably beyond your imagination.

On the other hand, living out of alignment with our purpose and truth will lead to dissatisfaction, unfulfillment, and a sense of internal conflict.

**Understanding and listening to the Strategy of your Type is the true insight to working with your Cross.

We are here to fulfill a consciousness program. We are talking about the fulfillment of purpose. When you live as yourself your cross takes over your life. The characteristics in your design don’t matter when you are living your purpose. Purpose allows you to transcend the problems of your characteristics. That’s the magic of being yourself, because the moment you really are living your nature your cross will take over, your purpose will take over and out of that will come its archetypal demand and the opportunity to be fulfilled in that way, whatever that way happens to be.

DEFINITION: Speaks to how many defined and connected energy centers you process your information through.

Our Definition is the aspect in our chart that tells us where we have a consistent flow of energy. It refers to how our centers are communicating with one another.

It provides you with information on how you operate, how the energies of the centers flow through you, how you will interact with others, and how coherent the connection to yourself is. It is like a transmitter, a message or defining frequency that is sent out into the world through our aura.

Definition in our chart both defines our gifts and determines our “limitations/challenges” for this lifetime.

BODYGRAPH

This is the term used to speak of the Human Design chart, or map, of human energetic mechanics. The Bodygraph is a rendering that comprises the physical body’s energy centers, represented by geometric shapes, based on the Hindu chakra system. Each chart has nine Centers and 64 gates, with 36 potential Channels. Each chart has this structure, however, the activations differ depending on the birth time and location.

You’ll notice there is a Black Side labeled Personality and Red Side, labeled Design, alongside the Bodygraph. Along with numbers and planetary symbols.

The Right, Black Side, labeled Personality, contains your conscious gates (can also be referenced as Personality or Mind).

The numbers on the right side are the conscious gates that are activated in you, which were based on the transits happening the moment you were born.

The Left, Red Side, labeled Design, contains your unconscious gates (can also be referenced as Design or Body).

The numbers on the left are the unconscious gates activated in you, which were based on the transits happening about 3 months (appx 88 days) before you were born.

The numbers before the dot are the gate numbers, which correlate with the bodygraph and the number after the dot are lines (1 through 6), which are how you express that energy.

Recently, I have been getting this nudge that the Design side of the chart is a natural part of us. Even though it is said we may not be aware of it — I see it and experience it as energy that is in play, deeply ingrained. When I think of it — it gives me “that’s just who I am…” “That’s how I came in.” I feel like it’s the energy we have already embodied. Or energy that is already programmed in us. While the Conscious Personality Side is what we’re working with in this lifetime. While we think we are the Personality Side, the Design side is the embodied aspect of us. In other words… I see Personality Side as “newer” energy for us, and who we think we are.

The Conscious Part of your Chart (Black side) — reflects the moment of your birth and the planetary positions. And the gates they highlighted are locked in place, adding the black Definition to your chart.

Three months before your birth are the red planetary positions (The Unconscious Part) and the Gates they highlighted are also locked in place adding the red Definition to your chart.

CENTERS

The centers (the shapes) in your Human Design chart represent your Chakras, based on the Hindu Chakra System. These areas are responsible for processing specific energies within your makeup.

Understanding the Centers can bring awareness that helps you distinguish between the activity of the mind, and your body’s natural strength and capabilities.

The Centers are grouped into four categories: Pressure Centers (2), Motor Centers (4), Awareness Centers (3), and Other (2).

Head Center: Pressure Center
Ajna Center: Awareness Center
Throat Center: Manifestation Center
G Center: Identity Center
Heart Center: Motor (Energy) Center
Splenic Center: Awareness Center
Solar Plexus Center: Awareness & Motor (Energy) Center
Sacral Center: Motor (Energy) Center
Root Center: Pressure & Motor (Energy) Center

When I think of the Centers I see them as plugs/outlets. We can see which areas already have a plug-in (speaking to the gates) and which are available. So when I consider someone coming into your aura field, I think about these plugs/outlets and whether they plug in easily and with harmony,or if we’ll have to be mindful and adjust some things for the plug/socket to not have a shortage of sorts.

Centers can either be defined or undefined/open.

DEFINED CENTERS: These are the colored Centers. When it comes to defined Centers, the energy of these Centers you will carry and experience consistently.

Your defined centers represent parts of your personal story that you will explore, learn about, and eventually share with the world as part of your life’s curriculum. The Defined Centers are part of what you’re here to share with the world. This is home to your innate gifts consistency and decision-making authority within your design.

The Definition determines your Type because depending on what is defined will depend on your Type. For example, only Generator Types have their Sacral Center defined.

The Definition also points to your Authority, as there is a Hierarchy of Authority. Your Authority is determined by the Hierarchy of Authority and your definition. there is an order the authorities are in, and what authority you will have depends on your definition and that order of the Authorities. If you have a defined Solar Plexus, that will be your personal Authority.

Additionally, for example, my Authority is Splenic… therefore, you’ll know I have an Open or Undefined Solar Plexus and Sacral Center.

Solar Plexus (Emotional Authority)
Sacral (Sacral Authority)
Spleen (Splenic Authority)
Heart (Ego Authority)
G (Self Authority)
Environment (No Inner Authority)
Moon (Lunar Cycle)

Open or Undefined Centers: These are the white Centers within your Human Design chart. Openness in the chart is where you absorb and AMPLIFY energy from others. Because you are experiencing Openness from outside yourself, these energies are always inconsistent.

Human Design helps us to bring awareness to the experiences where we mistakenly think energies we are absorbing from others belong to us. The more openness in the chart, the more sensitive you are, and the greater the chance that you will become wise about the potential of the human experience

Think about that — through absorbing energy you get to experience it… taste it… explore it… and you get to do this through different interactions and experiences.

GATES

Gates are indicated by “openings” of energy centers as indicated by each number on the bodygraph. The Gates in a chart are entry and exit points for the flow of energy to and from the Centers.

Gates correlate with resources, energies, potentials, and different types of intelligence. Each gate activation has a specific attribute. There are 64 Gates, each relating to their corresponding Hexagram in the I-Ching System. You can see the gates as capabilities, energies, intelligence, and resources.

The way your Gates are configured within each of your Centers determines how the Centers operate, how you experience it within yourself, and how it interacts with the environment and people around you.

These energies can be very detailed and reveal a lot about your individual magic. Gates represent personality traits that make you who you are.

Additionally, each Gate holds a specific Strategy — Projected, Generated, or Manifested — guiding us in how we interact with the world.

The black numbers and Gates represent the curriculum for your soul’s purpose in this life. The red numbers and Gates represent your life lessons and challenges and make you who you are in your life story.

WE HAVE ALL THE GATES

I have this belief that whatever one human is capable of, so am I. I believe that we all have access to whatever frequencies and energies exist, however they may not be activated in us. Some energy is Dormant and certain experiences or people may awaken that dormant energy.

My dad used to say, “Back someone in a corner good enough and you’ll meet another version of them.” I mean — we only know the version of the person that they present… *so….

This also goes along with my belief that we have everything we need already in us, just takes the correct circumstance to wake it up or activate it.

ASTROLOGICAL SYMBOLS

Taken from Western astrology and works much like Western astrology. Each planet means something. It is another layer of information. It adds flavor to the energy.

Each activated gate in your chart is highlighted by a planet, adding an extra dimension to how or where this gift shows up!

CHANNELS

When one gate communicates with the gate at the opposite end, it creates a channel. Channels are where energy moves between two centers communicating a specific theme, function, and gift that is consistent and reliable. This suggests that you may feel in sync or flow with this energy. There are a total of 32 channels on a Human Design Bodygraph.

Channels show themes that are a part of your personality, which are unique for each person. Each Channel has a high and low expression of an archetype. It’s a significant aspect of your internal chemistry and influences your Aura and Design and the life you are here to live.

The energy of your channels is considered a “life force,” because it carries the potential for growth and evolution within the form. The resulting life force definition is projected and communicated through your aura, and the influences or conditions those close to you.

Your Defined Channels also make up your Definition which also illuminates how energy flows through your Body Graph.

When you have a defined Channel, this can shed light on the characterizations of specific themes in your life, a gift or function that is reliable as it is a part of you.

Each Channel belongs to a Circuitry.

Circuitry explores the way energy circulates through the channels within the BodyGraph. Circuits are composed of channels.

A channel is composed of two gates and connects two centers. There are three main Circuits: Individual, Collective, and Tribal which are also broken down into six sub-circuits: Centering, Knowing, Integration, Understanding, Sensing, Defense, and Ego Circuit groups.

Your personal Circuitry determines your role in society and influences how you interact with the world. Most people have a combination of Circuitry in their design, but it is common for one to be more dominant in our behavior as we live out the theme of our purpose.

When viewed through the context of circuitry, the definition in a chart shows the ways our fundamental nature, values, and principles connect to, interact with, and impact others.

This is where the keynotes (mentioned above) are of great significance in providing important insight into understanding the unique frequency, or combination of frequencies, of one’s auric projection.

VARIABLES

The arrows you see near the head of the Bodygraph are Variables. These are also known as the Primary Health System. This section is considered as the advanced system of your Human Design.

Your Primary Health System is the foundation for de-conditioning. Deconditioning is the process of being less of “what other people want you to be” and living more within your Human Design.

Your variable information is extracted from the Arrows in your chart.

Top Right: Conscious Personality Sun and Earth

Bottom Right: Conscious Personality Nodes

Bottom Left: Unconscious Design Nodes

The direction the Arrows are facing will tell you how your Mind and Body operate, and your Gates will determine your Color, Tone, and Base.

Your variables inform you on things like how you manifest, how you digest information/food, the environments you thrive in, and how you process information.

This is the foundation for de-conditioning.

We may get into this more at a later date … but for now:

The top left arrow: Digestion — How I best digest the food I eat, how I take in life, how I take in information, and how I best learn
Bottom Left: Environment — Where I thrive– the physical space where I feel most comfortable and experience less resistance.
Bottom Right Arrow: View/Perspective — What I am here to see and how I manifest. It provides knowledge and awareness of my correct Perspective.
Top Right Arrow: Motivation/Awareness — What drives me and how I act it out. It provides knowledge and Awareness of my correct Motivation.

Well, Friends, that is the tour of the Human Design Bodygraph chart!

Now that you understand how to look and explore all the components of a human design chart, we’ll dive deeper– starting with Type, Strategy, and Authority.

While it’s great to know all these things, I believe in making this information practical for daily use, and I hope to focus on that. Therefore, I will take my time sharing, and be sure to mention ways that you can see examples in your everyday life.

So if you’re thinking:

I want to be able to understand how it all comes together.
I want to know how to use this in my everyday life without feeling like it’s another thing to remember.
I want the Human Design Language to be “decoded.”
Put it plain and simple, please.
Keep it grounded and realistic.

That’s what we are going to do. Tie it all together, using real-life examples, and painting pictures with words; I might draw, you never know lol. Though this is a logical system, I am using my intuition on which way to go and what that might look like.
